Statutory Applicability Notice (Transition from IPC to BNS)

As per the Ministry of Home Affairs notifications, offences committed on or before June 30, 2024 continue to be investigated, charged, and tried under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC, 1860) as protected by Article 20(1) of the Constitution of India (protection against ex-post facto laws). Offences committed on or after July 1, 2024 are registered and prosecuted strictly under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS, 2023).
